When producing fine art or photographic work there are many important factors to consider in order to create a high quality print. It is important to have an image at the correct resolution, this determines the quality at which the image will be printed. It is standard practice to supply your file at 300dpi scaled to the correct print dimensions.
Colour accuracy is an important factor for many artists when producing a print. At Exhibit Printing we have developed a service that we feel is the most practical and cost-effective way to help artist meet their expectations when printing a new piece of work.
We supply a sample strip service that allows artists to print a section of their image onto the paper stocks that they wish to test. This process allows the artist to see not only the resolution of their image but also the surface finish and the colour accuracy.
Every paper stock has a different colour gamut (“that portion of the colour space that can be represented, or reproduced.”). Once an artist has an understanding of which colours work well or which colours are compromised on any particular paper stock, they can decide to adjust their artwork or pursue a different route with regards to the final print.
Once you've produced a print you’re happy with, it is simple to re-order multiple copies in the future making digital fine art printing a great solution for artists looking to produce print-to-order editions.
Other than the visual appearance, the archival specifications of a paper are important to understand. Most people when requesting a fine art or a giclée print should be enquiring about its archival qualities. Archival means that the print will not fade or yellow overtime if stored in controlled conditions. The key element in creating an archival print is an acid free paper stock as well as a stable ink chemistry. At Exhibit Printing we offer two Hahnemühle fine art stocks that are suitable for creating archival prints when printed with our HP Vivera ink set.
However other papers can look just as good and may be perfectly suitable to your application.
